A downloadable mod

Nightshift is a weapons/gameplay mod that aims to be a survival horror experience, making things harder, intensifying encounters, encouraging resource management and set you in a lower ambience rather than the usual heavy metal. But you don't have to count only on your wits and your luck! Nightshift is small, but ironically it is very much complete. You can choose to play this in Doom, Doom 2, Heretic, Hexen, Hacx 2.0 and even Chex Quest!

This mod was made during the COVID pandemic, and i took a lot of inspiration from the sense of loneliness and reclusion, allied with the fact i used to work at a meat-packing company during the night shift, and even more, inspired on my father that used to be a nocturne guard.

You can customize the probability of your ammo spawns, which weapons to start with, if you want the damn ambience or not, visual and overall aesthetic effects, weapon behaviour, items behaviour, and much more.

Although your arsenal is limited, weapons are stronger than usual, so if you decide to scavenge for ammo in order to have a more exciting gameplay, the firepower won't make you feel like you are wasting bullets.  Shooting with weapons decrease your overall speed, but they reset everytime they go idle. If by any chance you get under 10 HP, the screen will blink and a heartbeat will be heard, and your movement will be crippled. So you better find a stimpack soon enough to recover your senses!

Weapon accuracy is affected by crouching, player movement is slower, and resources are scarce. Highly recommended to play this with dark ambience mods.

You'll need a sourceport such as LZDoom or GZDoom to play this file. I also recommend looking at launchers like ZDL or Ace Doom Launcher to combine this with other mods.

Sorry to bother, but I'd like to implement this mod into my doombuilder map.

If I add it as a pk3 resource, many issues arrise, like, "this pk3 contains multiple files with the same filename."

I'm aware that I can simply run my map and the mod side by side via gzdoom launcher, but then I wouldn't be able to place mod specific items into my map like the weapons and ammo. So how would I go about that?

I believe the "multiple names" problem is part of the markers inside the mod. If you're using slade, just name the small arrows that split the documents into categories with names like "marker 1", "marker2", and so on. Then try using it as a resource again.

Hope this helps!

Its interesting, I did exactly as you said, but when I use this newly fixed pk3 as a resource, the weapons and ammo in the things tab are blank. As in there's no image representing them, and when I place them in the map they're invisible. On the other hand, If i simply drag and drop my wad and your pk3 onto gzdoom.exe, the game successfully runs the two together, replacing the standard doom weapons and ammo with yours.  I really appreciate you responding btw

Hey Dr.Cosmobyte do you have any Monster Packs and Maps you can recommend me with?

Absolutely! I personally like Project Malice, but i'll link you to a ZDoom thread with a ton of them:
