A downloadable mod

UAC has broken our world beyond repair.

They say hard times create strong people. Things will have to be solved the old ways.

There was a time when guns were made of metal and wood, soldiers were made of blood and sweat, and after the war is over, all that's left beneath the remains is...

Rust and Bones

Welcome to my 29th mod!

This is a power-fantasy mod, directioned to people with thirst for stronger guns and harder challenges, or some easier way to suceed in maps. Highly inspired by Black Magwell, by Skelegant, but with my own twists on it until it turned something else.

Compatible with Hexen and Heretic, as most of my mods!

Expect breakable decorations, beautiful liquid textures, awesome weapon feedback and sound, as well as astonishing spriteworks made with the help of many legends in the community!

Shall we go for the features?

=======================================//

Arsenal:

Your arsenal consists of a linear selection, and very little gimmicks; basically a mod where you only need to know Mouse1 and Mouse2. You shoot stuff down, and that's more than enough.

Knife - Slot 1

Your trusty knife. It's already strong enough to take down hitscanners in one or two hits. Can be enhanced with berserk.

=======================================//

Chainsaw - Slot 1

Your old friend, drowned in blood from so many battles. Not enhanced by Berserk, but fast enough to tear down many monsters. If by any chance you think it is too powerful with infinite ammo, go to the options menu and enable it to use fuel!

=======================================//

Revolver - Slot 2

Your sidearm. And when i say "sidearm", i'm not joking;

This revolver will prove useful for you in many situations. If you by any chance are wielding the shotgun, super shotgun, battle rifle or grenade launcher, press Altfire to discharge your revolver on monsters and maybe save your life before reloading.

Tip: Your revolver is ALWAYS 100% accurate on the first shot!

=======================================//

Shotgun - Slot 3

The workhorse of the mod. Fire, pump, fire again. Six buckshot pellets of pure  joy.

=======================================//

Super Shotgun - Slot 3

The Super Shotgun in this mod uses a different ammotype as a way to make you use both shotguns and save it for stronger monsters. BUT, if you don't like it, and want it to use normal ammo, you can go to the options and change its ammo type on the fly.

=======================================//

Battle Rifle - Slot 4

Your starter weapon along with the revolver. No need to wait until you get a chaingun. 30 shots before reloading.

=======================================//

Grenade Launcher - Slot 5

The Blooper will get you places if you learn how to master its arch and fire it properly. To compensate for the single shot before reloading, your firepower is stronger than usual.

=======================================//

Minigun - Slot 4

A faster alternative for the chaingun, albeit with way less accuracy. Use it only if you feel confident that your shots are going to make minced meat out of monsters.

=======================================//

Incinerator - Slot 6

This gun is a short-range flamethrower, but strong enough to melt the monsters you see around. Useful if you think the next weapon consumes too much ammo.

=======================================//

Calamity Blade - Slot 7

The pinnacle of fuel devastation. The last UAC creation before migrating to the now almost extinct plasma weaponry. Charges a big shot and fires a long horizontal wave able to destroy monsters on its path.

=======================================//

Secret Weapons:

You also have a few secret toys to play with. If you're eager to obtain them, get 100 kills with the knife, 200 kills with the shotgun, and 300 kills (!) with the Grenade Launcher. You won't be disappointed.

=======================================//

Powerups:

Powerups behave almost the same as in Doom, except for the Blursphere: The Blursphere in this mod is replaced with a Max. HP enhancer. Each powerup expands your maximum life in 5 points.

=======================================//

Health Items:

Almost the same as vanilla Doom. Main differences are: Your health and armor bonuses can stack up to 300 points, your base medikit heals 30 points, and your Megasphere does not give you armor, just 200 health.

=======================================//

With all that in mind, have fun and JUST PLAY IT ALREADY!!!

You'll need a sourceport such as LZDoom or GZDoom to play this file. I also recommend looking at launchers like ZDL or Ace Doom Launcher to combine this with other mods.

Well, aparently the mod's props can't load on Hexen. I'll try to solve that for v1.2, thanks!

This has been a ton of fun. I first tried it on the big single player map Cheogsh, and it worked quite nicely there!

Funny enough I learned about the upgraded shotgun after I beat the map and began killing foes in the vanilla 02 map that came up, which got me to look for the official rust and bones page to learn about the others, a very cool touch!

I look forward to trying this in another map with fairly tough enemies.

Thank you! Hope you keep enjoying the mod!

Feels pretty good; big fan of the shotguns. Just wanted to ask if the movement speed is supposed to be increased? Cuz I'm having a bit of a hard time accustoming to it.

Yup, it's a bit faster than usual, i wanted something a bit more fast paced, hope i haven't exaggerated!

Thanks for enjoying the mod!

I wanna like it but I feel like it screws up with my muscle memory and I end up overcompensating

(+1)

I got a black screen on latest GZDooM, do you recommend a specific version for this mod? Looks great btw and I wanna try it out.

(+1)

Unfortunately this happens with all my mods as of late.

So this is what i can recommend:

Try another sourceport, or opening the console, or even spamming enter for starting the game, or even, changing your rendering settings to Vulkan. One of these options should work.

(1 edit) (+1)

Solved it by using gzdoom version 4.11.3a. And I've seen that Matt was using this version too. I guess this version is still better to play mods than the latest version of gzdoom. I don't know actually but I have solved 6 more other mods' problems by using this version. I guess this version still holds up. Anyways, good work with this mod. Playing Plutonia feels good with this :)

Thanks a lot and i hope you keep enjoying the mod!

Great mod right here, lots of fun regardless of what maps you play it with! As usual, recorded a showcase for it. :)

Adding to the page now!

I've noticed some kind of camera stutter when firing weapons with your mods.

With some research on my own, I've been able to fix it by replacing every SPF_INTERPOLATE with SPF_SCALEDNOLERP inside the zscript files.

I've only tested this with GZDoom so it may not be compatible with LZDoom.

(+1)

GZDoom has some problems with mouse jittering regarding that flag, and i even opened a thread about this, but nothing was done as far as i know. I would love to avoid such problems, but SPF_INTERPOLATE is an important flag to make weapons animate smoothly, and it's old enough to work on LZDoom, which is a port good for weaker machines.

I do hope that doesn't ruin your experience, though.

(+1)

I'm quite sensitive to these jitters, but luckily it's quick and easy to replace SPF_INTERPOLATE by SPF_SCALEDNOLERP with Notepad++.

Great mod as always by the way!

Thanks a lot!

Honestly had a blast with this mod. Managed to get the three secret weapons by the time I got to The Pit in Doom 2. Really love how they function.

That said, honestly expected the base Battle Rifle to have a +1 mechanic but that's probably just me being spoiled by so many other Doom mods that do that.

(+1)

I'm glad you like it!

Hope Yholl keeps on updating the mod!
